Pretty Rubber Stamp Decor

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to do a little sprucing up at home. While I don't have much time for crafting with my little monkey around, I absolutely love this easy Stamped Hoop project idea from Inkadinkadoo. What a fun way to create something beautiful without spending a lot of money or time on it.

Rubber stamping is one of my favorite craft techniques. Although it takes some patience and attention to detail, it is so rewarding! I love collecting stamps and playing around with inks and techniques such as flocking, embossing...you name it, I've tried it. But stamping on fabric is completely new to me. I have yet to try it and this project has inpired me to do so. How pretty are these patterns?

Plus, I love that you can transform these into a mixed media sort of project by adding on buttons or appliques, the possibilities are endless. I can't wait to get started!

A New Year, A Fresh Start

2011 was a good year, mainly because it was the year my husband and I welcome our first child. Our son arrived in October and ever since he has brought us so much joy and happiness (and everyone else in his life too!). It was also the year that I learned the importance of taking care of your health, was in awe of the generosity of family and friends and how wonderful marriage can be.

This morning however, brings a challenge for our little family. So while we work through this stumbling block, I will embrace the new year with hope and an energy to make it the best it can be.

I have just one resolution this year, to love and take care of my family the best way I know how. Of course there are plenty of other things I would like to resolve to do, but for right now this morning, this one resolution seems to be most important of all.

Happy New Year and here's to a positive, prosperous and creative 2012!

Simple Holiday Decor

With a newborn to take care of, it's been challenging to decorate as I usually do for the holidays. My table needed a simple centerpiece that would be festive yet easily moved, if need be.

I had purchased a few boxes of vintage ornaments from a yard sale a few years ago. I piled them into one of my favorite white bowls and I love the result! Pink, blue and silver is a modern, festive combo rather than the same old, same old red and green.

To give it a little extra sparkle, I nestled it inside of a glittered metal star wreath...I love the country chic look it adds to my little "farmhouse" style table.

My mother-in-law liked my display so much, she asked me to create one for her coffee table. She wanted more of traditional look. I filled a gold bakset with an assortment of vintage Shiny Brite ball ornaments.

First, I lined the bottom of the basket with loads of tissue paper. Then, I used a glue dot to attach a simple green bow I had to one of the balls. I then glued the ball to the center of the tissue filled basket so it stayed put. Then I just piled in the ornaments.

Finally, my son's nursery also needed a little holiday cheer. Rather than using one of those silly tabletop fake evergreens, I decided to display one of my favorite white feather trees. I added two adorable ceramic gingerbread kids that I painted years ago, even before I met my husband.I had no idea then that they would one day end up in my first born's nursery :)

Holiday DIY: Metallic Leaf and Wine Cork Wreath

I've been collecting wine corks for a couple of years now and have amassed quite a collection just sitting there waiting for a project. So, after seeing the photo below from the Soho Grand that Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere recently bloged about (thanks for sharing!), I decided it was time to make my own festive cork wreath.

I loved the metallic painted corks but I wanted my own twist. I turned to my craft supplies and came upon a pack of gold Dresden leaves that I had purchased years ago at Tinsel Trading in NYC. (LOVE that shop!) If I learned anything from crafting, it's that you never know when you'll use a supply so if you truly love something, buy it!

What do you think? I love how it turned out, now if I can only decide where to hang it!

Here's a little step-by-step in case you'd like to make your own!

Step 1: Gather your supplies: recycled wine corks (you could always fill in with store bought corks from the craft store), hot glue gun, glue sticks, flat wood wreath form, gold Dresden leaves.

Step 1: Begin to hot glue each cork to your wreath form. I decided to use a flat wooden wreath form (found at Michaels) instead of Styrofoam. I find the flat shape works better with the rounded corks.

Step 2: Continue to glue corks until the wreath is covered. If you have gaps, don't worry, you'll cover them up next!

Step 3: After your first layer is finished, fill in any large gaps with more cork. You could do an entire second layer or just fill in as I have here. Fun tip...to personalize my wreath, most of the corks on the top layer are from local Long Island wines--they are my favorite.

Step 4: Add embellishments. I loved the idea of using these gold leaves to embellish, but you could use anything really...faux grapes, painted leaves, or just leave your wreath as is. It is up to you!

Step 5: Hang. To hang, you can use a ribbon or attach a picture hanging clasp on the back.

Baby's First Christmas

Hello, hello! I am finally back to blogging after taking some time off to tend to my newborn son. Yep, that's right, Daniel Michael was born on October 22, 2011. He is so healthy and strong, the strongest 7 week old that I have ever met. Suffice it to say, my husband and I are completely in love with him. Isn't he the sweetest little boy?

A Chic Halloween Table

Halloween is on my mind. But with the baby on his way, I won't be able to decorate as I normally would (I'm only 3 weeks away from my due date!) So instead, I'll indulge in a little virtual decorating. I'd love to dress up my dining table and I'm feeling black, white and sparkly this year. what do you think?

Jeweled Pumpkins

I am obsessed with these jeweled white and black pumpkins from Chasing Fireflies. The price tag is pretty hefty for these sets, so I'm determined to make them myself. Its easy enough, you can find faux pumpkins, rhinestones, metallic paint pens and sparkly leaves all at the craft store. I can't wait to get started.

Phantom Candelabra

To continue my table's black and white theme, this candelabra from Z.Gallerie is a must-have. I'd place it right in the center or, if my table were long enough, I would use two--one on each end. I'd add sparkly white tapered candles.

Venetian Lace Tray

When I spotted this beautiful tray from Rosanna, Inc., I pictured it immediately on my table. I love the subtle lace design. This would be perfect for serving all sorts of yummy Halloween treats. I really love the dessert plates too, they may have to be part of my plan for next year.

Diamond Ribbon Wrap in Black and White

Save on Crafts is always my go-to for unique, special crafts supplies---those little touches that can really take a project to the next level. This diamond ribbon does not disappoint. I would use this to decorate my faux pumpkins (above) or simply use it to tie a bow around my rolled napkins. Love this!

Nesting, a Nursery Update

Well, hello there. I haven't posted since August and have missed writing here so much. We have been busy preparing for Baby D's arrival. I learned that I could expect him sooner than his due date of 11.2.11 :)

That being said, I am in full NESTING mode. So what have we accomplished for our little one's nursery? His closets are ready, he has a brand new rug and his crib is all put together, as is his bassinett.This weekend we have lots to finish up though such as putting together his changing table, adding the bedding to the crib, installing blinds (room darkening, of course!), hanging all of his artwork and organizing all of his wonderful gifts.

I'll be sure to share my photos with you all soon, but for now, here is a quick sneak peek!

We chose an oatmeal-colored carpet with a touch of gold in it. It's by Shaw and super soft. The dresser is from the Young America Collection by Stanley furniture and is currently holding the changing pad until we put together the changing table! Finally, the bassinet (a gift from baby's great-grandfather) is from Delta...we'll be moving it into our bedroom soon for those first few weeks he is home.

Speaking of the dresser. I'll leave you with a tiny DIY. Unfortunately, the plain painted wood knobs the dresser came with were lost (I've been holding this dresser for a couple of years) so to give it a modern update, I found simple chrome knobs at ACE hardware. At $1.19 each...I'd say this was a very cheap yet chic makeover!

A Room to Love

I was reading the La Dolce Vita blog earlier (a favorite of mine) and was so impressed with this photo (shot by Johnny Valiant) that Paloma included from House Beautiful that I had to show it off here!

I am thoroughly and utterly in love with this room designed by Barry Dixon for a lucky homeowner on Capitol Hill. From the oversized Sophia mirror by Thomas O'Brien for Hickory Chair to the gorgeous fabric on the bench to the placement of the branches, I thought this shot was so uniquely fresh. I want every detail for my own home!

I have to admit, maybe its because I do so much reading of design mags and blogs but I've been feeling a bit uninspired lately.I find that many designs are just regurgitated from place to place. There's something about this beautiful room that speaks to me and awakens my senses. That's why I was so happy to share it with you all today.

New Kraft Office Storage @ Paper-Source

As we continue to move rooms around in preparation for our little son, we are currently working on the new office space, which is home to our computers, books, files and my loads of crafty supplies :) While I'm still on the hunt for the perfect desk (anyone have any suggestions for a small space desk?)...I'm always ready to accessorize!

I was so excited when I received an email today from Paper-Source alerting me to its latest organization collection...Kraft paper accessories! Now, for a crafty gal like me, these are heaven sent. Yes, they are plain, but that's the point...they are just begging for me to get my craft on! I love the examples Paper-Source shows below in this promo photo:

Ladies (and gents) it's time to get your rubber stamps, washi tape, Sharpie markers, rub-on decals, stickers and other goodies ready for crafting! My plan is to scoop up a few file folders, the pencil cup and file holder below.

Map it Out

Inspired by this room designed by Brad Ford and photographed for Lonny Magazine by Patrick Cline, I'm currently in search of a similar map for the baby's nursery or even perhaps my living room. I love the idea of having it somewhere that as he grows up, he'll be curious about it, enjoy it and learn from it.

Further inspired, I went on a little search this morning for more maps and decorating ideas. Here a few of my favorites:

This may be my favorite photo-- East Hampton designer Robert Stilin framed two maps of Long Island above a bench. Simple and gorgeous.

From Better Homes and Gardens. I love the painted vintage frame, it matches beautifully with the old New England Map and the collection of blue pottery.

Also from BH&G, a giant map was used as wallpaper in an entry way in a family home. So colorful and inspiring for little ones.

The team at Martha Stewart, used an old map to update a boring lamp shade. A tedious project, I'm sure, but such a beautiful result!

Million Dollar Decorator designer Nathan Turner added a trio of maps for the grand entry in this Los Feliz home. A big, bold statement with a global touch.

Finally, I found this map on Land of Nod today and am tempted to purchase it. Its not necessarily an authentic vintage map, but it has the look I'm going for, comes already framed and free shipping doesn't hurt!

A Very Hungry Caterpillar Birthday Party via Pottery Barn Kids

I love birthdays and I love planning them, especially now that I'll be planning all of my soon-to-be baby boy's birthdays in the future! So naturally I was so excited when I saw this adorable A Very Hungry Caterpillar Birthday Party over at Pottery Barn Kids. What a super cute way of celebrating your baby's first birthday! Eric Carle's artwork is timeless and I love seeing it brought to life in this way.

While the whole concept is adorable, it was really the clever caterpillar made from lanterns that totally inspired me. So creative! I love working with paper lanterns. I've used them for many holidays, painting jack-o-lantern faces for Halloween, creating bunnies for Easter. Add this idea to the list!

Show Me Your Jewels!

I love jewelry. I love wearing it and I love displaying it even more! I was recently introduced to the From Me, To You photography blog on Tumblr and was instantly smitten with this photo.

Not only is the jewelry collection awesome, but so is the carved metal tray its resting upon. I use a small wall mirror at home as a tray for my jewelry but this photo has me thinking of creating a more dynamic display.

Here are a few ideas....

I created this look while working at Quick & Simple. We were very inspired by a Blueprint story that talked about using pretty bowls to organize your jewelry inside a drawer. It is like a little surprise just for you each time you open your drawer. TIP: Line your drawer in pretty paper and use candle wax to affix the bowls to the drawer to they don't move around.

I really liked this pretty idea from Martha Stewart Living. They used a flea-market frame to create a hanging display. Here, they cut a piece of Homasote, covered it in luxurious velvet and placed it inside the frame. Pin hooks are used to hang the jewelry. Stunning!

Finally, this photo from Declare Magazine also caught my eye...a gaggle of beaded necklaces hanging well, on a hanger. Very clever and definitely an eye-catching display!

Budget-Friendly Artwork for the Nursery

We are making more progress with the nursery this week! I just ordered this adorable set of prints last night from Etsy (my mom gets the credit for finding these! thank you!).

Seller HopSkipJumpPaper has a sweet collection of baby- and kid-friendly prints up for sale at amazing prices. This set of two was only $24. Can't wait to receive them so I can go pick out frames!

While I am an admirer of art, I'm not in the position to spend a lot of money on pieces, especially for my baby's nursery. That's why I am obsessed with finding chic ways to dress up walls on the cheap! I learned a lot about that working on photo shoots and wanted to share a few great ideas with you today.

Book Pages
Some might think its blasphemy to rip illustrated pages out of a book and frame them. For me, I think it has to depend on the type of book and how much you spent on it. Golden Books are a childhood staple and cost-effective. How adorable are these framed pages from Baby Space in Australia? If you can't bring yourself to remove pages, make good-quality color copies instead, they'll look just as great!

Fabric-Wrapped Canvases
For awhile there, I was obsessed with wrapping blank artist canvases in scraps of fabric. If you know how to wrap a package, you can certainly wrap fabric around a canvas. I like to use a staple gun to secure the pieces on the back. Check out this great tutorial from Fiskars, they took it one step further and turned the canvas into an organizational center, adding, trim, hooks, photos and ribbon pockets!

Wallpaper or Wrapping Paper
I especially love to do this with a clip frame (that means it has to edges), that way the paper looks as if it is floating off the wall! After we were married and setting up our first apartment I had framed a gorgeous sheet of wrapping/decorative paper from Kate's Paperie and hung it above our bed. I loved that I only spent about $15! How great are these kid-friendly papers, also from Kate's Paperie?

We all love great artwork, but when our budgets won't allow it...do it yourself!

Beach House Dreams

If you haven't yet checked out the new issue of Lonny Magazine, I recommend diving right in! Once again, it is packed with beautiful and inspirational stories and images. For me, I can't stop staring at this gorgeous beach house in Amagansett, NY.

As a Long Island girl, I'm familiar with the Hamptons but not in the same way as say, ahem, the rich and famous are. I visit, they live out their summers there :) I dream of owning a gorgeous beach house one day to escape to. Oh, and it has to have cedar shingles just like this one found on page 180 of this month's Lonny.

How about you, what is your dream vacation home like?

Baby Love: Fabric Scrap Puzzle Blocks

Pinterest is an amazing distraction :) I came across this adorable kids craft project: a puzzle made using wooden blocks and scraps of fabric. It is from a great crafty website...Craftiness is Not Optional.

I love the idea of reusing and repurposing craft materials, especially when you are left with random bits of leftovers. I'm all about crafting for my little one-on-the-way and this could be a great toy to have ready for him. Plus, I totally love that I can use up some of my favorite fabrics for an attractive look :)

Pizza on the Grill!

To say my husband "grilled" for our Fourth of July BBQ is an understatement. His menu was packed, and I mean packed with delicious eats. He was so excited and so focused, he planned for weeks, writing lists, checking off ingredients than rewriting again! I love his passion for cooking and I just love him for making our BBQ the best - EVER!

One of my favorite menu items was his grilled pizza. It was his first time grilling pizza and its something he's wanted to do for a long time. This was the party to do it! He whipped up these beauties when our guests arrived...

The one on the left was a yummy mix of prosciutto and goat cheese. On the right? Classic tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella. Just look at those grill marks :) They were delicious...his only complaint was that the dough grew so much, the prosciutto and cheese kind of "swam" to the middle. I think they were both gorgeous and delicious!

Our best tip for pulling these beauties together? Buy fresh ingredients and pick up a fresh dough from your favorite pizzeria---oh and make sure you oil the grill first!

My Nursery Inspiration Board

Now that we know we are having a boy, I'm all about planning the nursery. While my husband of course would like to lay down astroturf and install a soccer field atmosphere complete with a scoreboard and goals...I on the other hand am dreaming of a soothing, calming nursery for our little one.

I'm very excited to share my nursery inspiration board here, mainly because I would LOVE your feedback, but also because it is my very first photoshop collage!

It all starts with this pretty Full Circle bedding set designed by American quilter Denyse Schmidt for The Land of Nod. I love the color combo and the bit of plaid that peeks out from the circles and the outside of the bumper. It was the only set I kept going back to so I think this is the winner. Our crib is an off-white, so this will work great. I'll know for sure once I receive the fabric swatches that I ordered.

From there, I knew I had to pull those pretty greens and blues from the bedding so for paint, I'm really loving these shades from Pottery Barn's Benjamin Moore Collection. The blue is called Sweet Bluette and the green is Stem Green. I think we'll paint the entire room in the blue and maybe do a low stripe in the green. We'll see.

I love the idea of accessorizing with green storage pieces like this basket, also from The Land of Nod. I figure if my son will one day have a soccer-field inspired type room that his dad has always dreamed of, I might as well invest in some pieces that will go along with it!

As for lighting, I'm torn between a gorgeous pendant lamp such as this beauty from Oilo that I spotted on LaylaGrace.com today or a ceiling fan. I've grown to enjoy ceiling fans and I think for a baby, it could be a nice choice.

I'm currently on the hunt for a dresser/changing table and will also have a white gliding rocker in the room so we're just about ready to start.

We're having a....

This adorable burlap banner is from Etsy.

I'm so, so excited to reveal that my husband and I are having a boy :) We found out last week and are just thrilled. I know there are lots of people who don't want to find out but for us, we were just too excited to not know! Plus, its going to help so much with our planning!

First up...my husband has already purchased a Mets jersey and a small soccer ball. For me, I've already been planning the nursery's colors and bedding. I'm pulling together an inspiration board this week and will share soon!

ReadyMade Magazine Folds...

I was so sad to read of the news yesterday that ReadyMade magazine would be folding. When I was working at Parents in the early 2000s, we were purchased by Meredith and it was exciting to be part of a company that included a cool roster of mags such as ReadyMade and Better Homes & Gardens. I remember our art department going crazy for this cool, hip DIY magazine. As for me, as the crafty lifestyle editor, ReadyMade really opened my eyes to new projects. I've since followed the staff on their journey and while I was not a subscriber, I was a fan.

I've been watching one great shelter/lifestyle mag after another fold ever since the beloved House & Garden did in 2007. Since then, I've seen so many including Cookie, Blueprint, Metropolitan Home and two of my favorites: Country Home and Domino vanish.

Of course included in this roster was the last magazine I worked for...Hearst's Quick & Simple magazine. That was a heartbreaking time. I had just arrived a year earlier and poof! We were gone. To add fuel to the fire, we were told our offices would be occupied by some new magazine from the Food Network. Three years later, I suppose Hearst made a good business decision as it is extremely popular, but really, there was certainly room for our well-designed women's lifestyle weekly. Hm, I guess I am still very sad and why not...it changed the course of my entire career.

Sadly, I am not excited to visit the magazine section at the bookstore any longer. While I still enjoy a handful of titles (Martha Stewart Living, House Beautiful and Country Living top my list), I find the others are just not quite fulfilling my needs when it comes to the home/shelter/craft category.

I suppose that's why I, like so many have turned so voraciously to the blogosphere. I crave the content and the daily reading. Without it, I'd be lost and I'm so grateful to be a part of it!

So here's to ReadyMade, its staff (best wishes!) and all of the other pubs, staff members and readers who have had to say goodbye to their favorite titles.

Interior Stylist Lucyina Moodie

Stylist. To me, it’s one of the most glamorous jobs, especially an interiors or prop stylist. When I was on staff at various magazines, I was able to play the role of stylist quite a bit and let me tell you, even though it is a ton of nerve-wracking work, the process is one of the most exhilarating and rewarding experiences ever. As a writer, the ability to tell a story soley using visuals is something that I grew very fond of.

From time to time I visit various stylists’ websites for inspiration.I was first turned on to London-based interior stylist Lucyina Moodie from one of my favorite blogs, Decor8. Ever since then, I often visit Lucyina’s site to see what's she's been up to.

Today, I decided to share with you the images she created that I love the most. Her use of color, texture and placement paired with the photography itself is in a word, beautiful. I wish I would start styling more, if even little vignettes in my own home…perhaps with her inspiration guiding the way I will.

I adore craft supplies, especially those with a bit of vintage appeal to them. This is one of the prettiest still lifes. I love how she kept everything on a natural fabric...maybe a burlap here? Love this shot.

The use of white in various shades and textures here is so soothing, I imagine this dressing room smelling of fresh cut gardenias.

This type of collection is one of my favorites to pull together...yummy bits and bobs of fabric, trimmings, inspiration and other odds and ends. If I were an interior designer, my office would be covered in vignettes just like this one!

Styling a bed is hard work. Linens are the toughest to deal with (all those wrinkles!) This blush-pink vignette is gorgeous. It's feminine with a little messy glam rolled into one.

I am obsessed with colorful glass holiday ornaments...all of those shiny colors grouped together just sing. And how quirky to be piled into a rustic wheelbarrow. I adore the mood lighting here too.

This may seem like a simple photo, but I have an idea of the work involved behind it. I'm sure Lucyina and the photographer tried many, many vases or other interesting "vehicles" after choosing just the right blooms and placing them just so. Shooting flowers is hard, but it makes for such a rewarding end result!

The Farm via The NY Times

I've definitely blogged about the beautiful homes that I've read about in the New York Times' Home & Garden section before, but none have impressed me (or made me drool!) as much as The Farm.

Spending my early career at Country Living magazine, I developed a deep fondess and respect for gorgeous, rustic interiors and accessories. However, being a glamour girl at heart, I always need a bit of luxury to spice things up. I am a fan of all things urban country/country modern/industrial glam and well, let me tell you, The Farm is the epitome of all of it!

Located on 150 acres nearby downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this amazing farm is everything I could want in a home and more (oh, did I mention its the owners' second home...ah, to be so lucky!). The couple, along with their super talented decorator took style to the max and didn't look back.

I would like to officially declare this my dream home! Wanna see why....here are some of my fave pics:

First up...this adorable felt Sweet Bakery Mobile. Maybe it's because I'm secretly craving a cupcake (I'm avoiding sweets) or that I simply love making felt crafts, but either way, this mobile caught my eye! How cute is this?

It comes from a great site called Gifts Define. They have a unique collection of creative and cool felt finds for baby and kids (oh and weddings too!). I love how its all handmade-- kudos to the owner/artist Irma Niekum!

Craving: Metallic Wallpaper

As we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our first baby, my husband and I are definitely in nesting mode. While he's taken to the exterior of our house, I am of course obsessed with making our little place the perfect haven for our growing family.

When these metallic wallpapers popped up in my inbox yesterday, I was smitten. I love, love, love to use metallics to accessorize and these are some of the prettiest wallpaper patterns I've seen lately.

This first one is my "realisitc" favorite, meaning the one I can most see myself using in my home. I'd love it for the bedroom or a transition wall in our living area perhaps. Its subtle sheen is perfect for giving a space a little sparkle. And who doesn't love a little sparkle in their life?

I'd use it in small doses but I bet many designers out there have other ideas for it!

A Golden Weekend

Who's ready for the Oscars? I certainly am! I'm very excited to see how James Franco and Anne Hathaway take on their hosting duties. So far, I'm loving their commercials...wardrobe malfunction is my favorite.

I won't be throwing a party for the Oscars, it'll just be me and the hubby cheering on our (well MY) favorites (Colin Firth, Natalie Portman). But if I were to throw a party, you better believe it would be all about glamour!

I was lucky enough to channel my party aspirations for two fun stories that I wrote for AOL's Holidash.com . Take some time to read them today....maybe you'll pick up a few party tips!

The first is about channeling Old Hollywood Glam by way of a fun costume bash. These vintage hollywood star napkins would work perfectly...

Shop Spot: What's New at Matteria

I received a cheery email this morning from Matteria, a fabulous online shop based in the UK. They curate the best items for the home from some of the most talented designers I've seen.

This email was all about the design group Buzzispace and its new felt products. I love felt, it's a material I love to work with and use in my home.

First up is this amazing felt lamp! How genius is this design? It reminds me of these super cute paper lanterns from Martha Stewart Kids.

Speaking of kids...how about this clever felt puzzle piece rug? I would have had a blast playing with this as a child.

Finally...I really adore these puzzle poufs! I know they're geared towards kids but I'd totally use one in my home office.

What I love most, aside from the whimsical, smart designs is that EVERYTHING is made from 100 percent recyled eco-felt...it's eco felt that's made from upcycled plastic bottle waste. SO COOL! I wonder if it is the same material Kunin uses for their eco-felt...

This image from StyleAtHome.com caught my eye this morning. The colors are beautiful, the styling crisp but it was that oversized white mirror leaning against the wall that made my heart skip a beat.

It instantly reminded me of the many, many oversized mirrors I encountered at HomeGoods yesterday! Now, I really, really want one for my home :)

While browing the New York Times this morning, this gorgeous red leather iPad case from Yves Saint Laurent caught my eye. Be still my heart.

Now, please realize, I do not own an iPad, nor do I plan to buy one (well maybe if prices drop) but I am crushing hard on this case, even though it costs as much as the iPad itself.

Begs the question: Can fashion make technology cool?

I say yes and really, it has...here are a few chic examples...

Harpers Bazaar chronicled the 7 Best Designer iPad cases last spring (Chanel {see pic below}, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, they all have one...YSL is still my fave though!)

Cozy Crafting with Country Living

I am so, so excited to share my sweet little "Yarn Flowers" craft that is in the February issue of Country Living out now (go get a copy!!) Editor Jourdan Crouch and photographer Kate Mathis did a phenomenal job with the photograph!

Making pom-poms is such a fun winter weekend project and in when glued to branches, they become such a pretty addition to your home's decor.

When I originally came up with this craft concept, I had made the pom poms the old fashioned way...(cut a donut shape out of cardboard and wrap, wrap, wrap,). A fine way to do it, but tedious. So, when CL asked me to test out these fun little tools from Clover, I was more than excited. They helped speed along the process for sure!

As the snow begins to fall today, I'm kicking back, doing a little online browsing. I'm hoping to make a few changes/updates in my home this year and lighting is definitely one of them! Here's a round-up of some of the interesting finds I'm inspired by...

I'm very much obsessed with this site...they are the best source for Italian Murano glass lighting and they are here in NYC. Drool!

We are badly in need of a new floor lamp and I've always wanted a tri-pod style lamp so I may have to order this one. Its sleek and sophisticated - love it.

Inspired by: Windsor Smith

Many of you are most likely a fan of hers already, but I had to share my thoughts on interior designer Windsor Smith. I first fell for her sense of style when I read about her in Rue and then after checking out her website, I realized she was also the genius behind a favorite story from Domino a few years back.

I totally love her fresh, modern twist on traditional American style. Maybe its her extensive travels or simply her innate talent, but this designer knows how to bring it. I'm also having a navy moment (and if any of you follow my tweets you know what I'm talking about!) so the deep inky hues that punctuate many of the interiors shown in her portfolio online are making me crazy. How could you not love these rooms?

Of course, as I kept going, I wandered over to the Windsor Home Collection section of the site and I was in chair heaven. If I had the means, I don't even think I could choose between these two lush chairs.

The Audrey chair is just so plush and oh-so-glamorous...

As is the Harlow slipper chair. This would make the perfect seat in a corner of a bedroom.

And the final showstopper....this antiqued scallop mirror. I love how its styled in this photo...such a dreamy space...

Have a Sparkly New Year!

2011 is finally here and itls time for me to sparkle and shine! For me, this year is all about change. It's time for me to stop dreaming about what it is I really want out of life and just go get it.

As far as my career, well I want to make this the most kick-ass year yet! There's lots and lots I'd like to accomplish and today, I'd like to share them, hoping it will put me on the right path to make them happen!

1. Enhance my blog. This mean writing everyday, welcoming lots of new readers and finally giving it the makeover it desperately needs. I want my readers to be just as excited to read my blog as I am excited to read my favorites!

2. Write for new publications. I'd really like to work with more print publications, as well as the new crop of digital magazines (hm, perhaps even start my own?) I have a fantastic project coming up in the February issue of Country Living and I hope that is the start of more to come! :)

3. Book proposal. You hear that universe? This girl is ready to produce a book! Friends of mine have done it, fellow bloggers are getting ready to, there's no reason that I shouldn't join them. The first step? Focusing on one subject...that's been my downfall, I have too many ideas! Decorating? Parties? Crafts? Or a little bit of everything?

4. Attend more industry events. Networking is so, so, important and unfortunately, living in the 'burbs hinders my attending some fabulous NYC events. However, this year, I'm making more of an effort to do so! Starting with the NYIGF at the end of this month.

5. Yoga. As part of my efforts to live a healthier life, I'd really like to incorporate this into my everyday. I think taking some time each day to clear my head and refocus my energy would help me reach all of my goals.

6. Love more. Simply put, there's nothing more important than sharing love with your family and friends.

Well, there it is....six goals (and a few I'll keep private) that I'd like to cross off my to-do list on December 31, 2011. Here's to a fabulous year...I hope it brings love and luck and happiness to you all!

Macy's Holiday Windows, NYC

I love the holidays but have been feeling a bit overwhelmed by all that needs to get done this month. Today, I took some time and strolled around New York City in search of that holiday spirit. I found just what I needed in the windows of Macy's in Herald Square.

It might sound "tourist-y" to some, but a girl from Long Island can still get excited to check out the holiday windows at the most famous store in the world! First, I loved the scenes from Miracle on 34th Street.

It is one of my favorite movies, ever (the original, 1947 version of course!!). Growing up, I adored the magic little Susie finally felt as she befriended "Kris" aka Santa Claus. Seeing those scenes today in the windows, reminded me to stop and feel that magic of Christmas.

Moving on to some of the smaller windows, I fell in love with all of the sparkly paper crafted stars! I love how they surround all of the gorgeous shoes and accessories in the window.

I could only imagine the fun the window dressers had preparing all of those stars made of paper, glitter and glue! Ok, I'm sure it was painful at times (there were just so many!) but what an awesome display!
I hope you enjoyed my short but inspired tour of Christmas in the city...for me, this little excursion was just what I needed :)

Animal Instincts

There's something about fall that makes me gravitate to rich, warm hues like orange, navy, but nothing has got me going this season like leopard print! Ok, yes, it is everywhere BUT I'm loving it. I myself own a leopard cardigan and pair of too cute shoes that I adore. But when I saw these photos from Talbots.com, it made me want to run out and buy this coat!

I love the styling in both photos and how awesome to see Linda Evangelista...one of the most amazing supermodels ever. (I think her and Cindy Crawford were my faves back in the day). I would love to be walking around in that outfit today...but alas I am not that brave!

I am a bit braver when it comes to decorating my home...so here are a few of my picks to help me get this look above at home...

I was lucky enough to enjoy a little pumpkin picking on my way home from Sag Harbor this weekend (more on that later) and now I am ready for Fall!

I was so excited to stop at this charming farm stand right on Montauk Highway in Water Mill...The Milk Pail. They had all sorts of varieties of pumpkins, gourds and squash, I came home with what felt like a car full! I can't wait to show you all how I'm decorating with them...but for now...a few more photos...the owners were kind enought to let me shoot away!

American Cupcake

I've been doing researching for this massive travel-related project, uncovering lots of cool shops and restaurants around the country. Well, American Cupcake in San Franciso has to be one of the ones I am dying to visit most!

The scoop: it's a quirky cafe with a menu packed with delicious savory bites, candy-inspired cocktails, cool desserts and my favorite part...the cupcakes!

Now, I don't care who says cupcakes are on their way out...to me, they are the perfect way to indulge a bit, try a new flavor and generally give me a little boost on rainy day :)

I am most smitten by American Cupcake's "cupcake flights" and "cupcake pairings." Matching up cupcakes with wine and beer? Sounds perfect, yes please. Cupcakes and wine are two of my favorite indulgences and I think its lovely to have them together.

My favorite cupcake flight: The Tunnel of Love, which gives you three minis: chocolate, red velvet and red hot (cinnamon, love it!) paired up with a taste of Vin Gris Rose, Sonoma Brut and Cabernet Savignon.

There's so much more to try....like the peanut butter and preserves menu with loads of yummy toppers and The Mad Tea Party...cupcakes covered with ice cream and all the fixings.

I may just be heading out to San Fran in November so I hope to stop by, but in the meantime, maybe I'll just try it myself at home... a chocolate cupcake with a glass of Cab Sav...that'll do!

Five things I love about Martha Stewart Living...

I am a huge Martha Stewart fan but will admit I've taken a break from reading MSL each month so when I picked up the September "home" issue (my favorite always), I was so glad to be back. Here's why:

1. Good Things. If I could choose a dream job it might be to produce the Good Things section every month. I am obsessed with recreating this wallpaper shade on p. 63.

So smart to use wallpaper scraps to jazz up a plain roller shade. I have some patterns that would be perfect...

2. Blogs. Martha and her editors are fearless in their quest to share their ideas. I'm exicited to start reading the new Home Design and Taste of the Test Kitchen blogs along with my fave The Crafts Dept (oh, to be part of the craft team...maybe one day...)

3. "The Big Reveal" feature. This month, executive editorial director Kevin Sharkey shows off his finished, renovated apartment. Check it out online here. In a word, stunning.

4. "Icing on the Cake" feature. No one does frosting like Martha. Not only were the photos drool-worthy so were the recipes. I'm dying to try each and every one, especially the cream cheese frosting below...

5. Tassels. I'm gearing up to make a bunch of my own. If anyone remembers, I sort of have a thing for tassels....so thank you to the MSL team for showing me how to make them!

JOIN Seattle Design @ NYIGF

Walking by the many NYIGF booths, I stopped to meet the gang at JOIN Seattle Design. This very modern, collective of designers working together to promote their ideas had such an interesting array of products, we couldn't help but find out more.

These beauties from Iacoli & McAllister are a study in form and function. I love how they don't bother with a fussy shade, just the simple structure of the frame in an array of cool powdercoated colors. They're beauty and simplicity make them so unique.

Available in three sizes (8", 12" and 16") they are perfect for a kitchen, home office, anwhere that needs a little industrial flavor.

On to what might be my favorite company name ever...Ladies & Gentlemen Studio. (so fun, right?) Well these designers had me drooling over their Superior Servers.

I am obsessed with the beautiful Rococo handle design and the fact that they come in white, orange and yellow and I can mix-and-match. Very cool indeed. At $35 each, I'll be scooping up one of each: the slotted spoon, serving spoon and fork.

Also obsessed with a blog post of theirs about stamping vintage postcards with their company info for the show...these are so fabulous. Wish I had one...alas, I didn't see any left at the booth.

They also have a hilarious Mega Doily rug, featured in this month's issue of Country Living, that had me grinning. I love their style and sense of humor.

Keep an eye on all of the designers from JOIN Seattle Design...I have a feeling we'll be hearing a lot more about them in the future!

NYIGF: Horsin Around @ Two's Company

One of my favorite stops at the gift show is always Two's Company. The multi-room booth is always crowded and filled with accessories that are either right on trend or predicting what's next. This year, their equestrian themed displays were a hit.

Coincidentally, I recently did an interview with a fellow blogger about "equestrian tyle" for an upcoming assignment.

Polo matches and horseback riding on the English countryside always come to mind as do all of the glam accoutrements that go with it, such as riding helmets, show ribbons and trophies.

With horses on the mind, I also spotted a few other interesting accessories like this beautiful horse painting...

... and this chic, white horse peaking out on the left lower corner of this beatuiful display at another booth (sorry, I dont' remember which one!).

As it turns out, we can look forward to lots of horsing around come fall!

NYIGF: Gorgeous Grey

Hooray...I am back to blogging after a brief hiatus! This summer has just been super busy but now I have lots to share.

First up...the New York International Gift Fair! I spent the early part of the week racing around the Javits Center and the Piers in NYC soaking up as much inspiration as possible.

This first and strongest trend I noticed? GREY! Everyone is embracing this hot new hue in so many ways--- there's no escaping this color for fall.

I really loved these tiny side tables at Oomph, especialy in the dove grey...so chic with the monogram! Love, it---a must-have!

I loved this soft grey and white bedding set and that "dipped" two-tone pillow too (both new prints)...something about it felt very boho chic to me! He also has a fab line of tie-dye coming too...pillows, robes, and more!

I have been patiently on the hunt for a bar cart for my living room and I think I've found it...at Target.com!

I was over at the 7 W New York building today, the new(ish) home to several fabulous design and giftware company showrooms. Two's Company & Tozai Home are located in the lobby and Tozai's current display made me stop and smile...

How fun are all of the white animal heads with the colorful ties hanging around them? Brilliant. Design can certainly have a sense of humor sometimes :)

Recipe Review: Bon Appetit's Lemon Oregano Aioli

I love to cook but I really only get the chance to take on new recipes on the weekends. With my husband away on business tonight, it gave me the perfect chance to whip up something I've had my eye on for a few days.

Bon Appetit's June issue has an amazing feature on mix-and-match summer entertaining menus. It's full of great ideas but the one I wanted to test first was the Roasted Asparagus and Baby Artichokes with Lemon-Oregano Aioli. (I opted to nix the asparagus.)

Aioli is a creamy, garlicky mayonnaise and one of my favorite dips. I love how this recipe added fresh oregano and lemon juice into the mix. Somehow cooking with fresh ingredients just makes everything taste better and brighter and this one certainly did.

If you try this recipe, and I highly recommend you do so for your next summer dinner party or girls lunch, I would cut back to maybe 3/4 cup of mayo instead of just one. This had a little too much mayo for me. And be sure to taste it as you whisk the aioli, you may want more lemon juice, salt, pepper, etc. And finally, you must use fresh oregano...dried just won't do here!

Garden is Done!

I am so proud to finally show off the finished photos of our little garden! Last weekend we added some colorful petunias, mulch and a sweet, little picket fence. what do you think?

I love, love, love it. It gives our yard (and that blah shed - I cannot wait to paint it!)...some much needed colors. Its a little more country cottage than I usually go for...but I think it works!

If you have the time and a few dollars...a garden is such a great way to change things up around the house inexpensively. In total, I think we spent maybe $300 or so for everything (including that cute little metal sign that says "bloom").

Not bad for a quick makeover that yields beautiful results like this...

Yep, one of our first and largest blooms! I cannot wait until these bushes fully bloom so I can start clipping a few to decorate with inside as well.

The cover photo definitely drew me in. But then, when I learned that this duo were in the fashion biz in London and they were offering up delicious recipes as well as fresh party tips...well, I'm in!

With its promise of 101 creative ideas for elegant and affordable entertaining...how could I not dive in?!

Hydrangeas Update!

As I was heading out this morning, I noticed the buds on our hydrangea bushes have started to bloom! I was so excited, I took a few photos to share:

I am so excited that I think this will be the weekend we finally plant our filler flowers, put down mulch (to get rid of those rocks!) and add a pretty white fence :)

Hotel Hopping in NYC

Last week I spent a day checking out hotels in NYC for an event I am helping to plan. Nothing beats visiting some of NYC's trendiest lofts and penthouse suites on a gorgeous sunny day.

First up was the Hotel Giraffe. The rooftop terrace is amazing....can't you just picture a chic cocktail party out here:

The room itself was used for Mr. Big's apartment in the first SATC movie. I nearly passed out from excitement!

After that visit it was off to a delicious outdoor lunch at the Bryant Park Grill. A cool class of iced tea beautifully presented with a sprig of mint and lemon paired nicely with my lobster burger. Delish.

After resting our feet on the lawn back at Bryant Park...it was such a beautiful day...

....we headed over to The Royalton. It took my breathe away. I stayed here about 10 years or so ago when it first opened and let me tell you, the renovation they did three years ago made it even more amazingly cool.

Just look at that fab light fixture in the lobby (which is super dark, like you're entering the coolest secret club house ever)...

The rooms were amazing too...this tub in the penthouse loft (um, $3000 a night!!) was enough to make me drool with envy over anyone that can afford to actually stay there.

The smaller penthouse suites however, were just perfect...this terrace was just so pretty.

In the Garden

If you're looking for a fun and easy way to spruce up your yard, think gardening.

For my May column in LI Pulse, I spoke with celebrity Hamptons designer Kenny Davis (who designed the apartment Paris Hilton lived in while filming Paris Hilton’s My New BFF) about how to make the most of your home by creating a "garden room." I loved his idea of setting up something as simple has bench and gorgeous flowers to create a peaceful retreat.

Kenny also spent a lot of time talking about making the most of where you live and for us, that means Long Island. Hydrangeas are one of his favorite flowers, and mine too....plus, they grow well here.

My interview with him inspired me to plant a trio of colorful hydrangea bushes in our yard next to the boring shed we have) So about a month ago my hubby and I got to it...digging up grass and planting three bushes. Look how they started out in April...

Now they are really growing nicely, even with the rocky, sandy dirt we have going on here on Long Island (oops, gotta get those weeds back there!):

We're hoping to add some flowers in between for a little extra color until the bushes bloom this summer...oh, and yes, we will be getting rid of the bricks too...I'm thinking of swapping them out for a short white fence like this. But for now, we're using them to keep critters away

...or so I keep trying to tell myself as I turn 33 today! Yikes! Well, I suppose I am officially a grown-up, no turning back! I had such a wonderful weekend of celebrations, my favorite part was just spending time with my husband. He made this weekend a blast...a few highlights:

The hubby surprised me with a new digital camera on Saturday! Exactly the one I wanted...in pink. Gotta love a man that buys a pink camera for his wife :)

Yesterday we spent the entire day touring a few of the vineyards on the North Fork of Long Island. This is one of our favorite activities for sure. We visited Bedell Cellars (which I have blogged about here before), Osprey's Dominion and my new favorite: Raphael Vineyards. It was gorgeous...

To round out the b-day celebrating, I had a delicious bbq, cake and presents with my fam and today was lunch down in Northport Village taking it easy by the water.

On the menu tonight...red velvet cupcakes :)

This weekend was filled with lots of well wishes, text messages, emails, phone calls...I am so lucky to have such wonderful people in my life. Thank you all!

They Say it's Your Birthday....

Hooray! My birthday weekend is finally here. Since the big day is on a boring Monday this year, I have decided to celebrate all weekend long :) I'll be popping in with updates, but for now, here is how I have celebrated so far:

Thursday evening...yes, weekends can start on Thursdays! A fantastic mani-pedi...the foot massage was heaven as is the pretty new color on my fingers and toes: Splash of Grenadine by Essie. I highly recommend it!

Friday yielded a quick trip into NYC this afternoon. A quick stop at Tom Colicchio's 'wichcraft for a decadent hazelnut iced latte and peanut butter cream 'wich (yum!).

Then I was off for some fun trying on makeup at Sephora. I even purchased a delicious new perfume (Vanilla Coconut, anyone?)

and a fab new Nars lip gloss - the new Coup de Cour, which will go great with a tan this summer.

Well, back at home now, the hubby and I are kicking back, gearing up for a fun filled weekend of relaxation, good food, good friends and good wine...oh, and for me...I'm hoping for some fun b-day presents! :)

I am also bummed because I missed meeting him at an event earlier this week. I met him a couple of years ago when he first launched his line at Target and he was just such a gentleman, so wonderful and inspring to talk to! Perhaps I will run into him again one day.

Finally something I will be purchasing (thanks for the scoop, Anna!)...this beautiful linen foil printed pillow cover from Patch NYC for West Elm. At $34, it is such a steal, I may have to buy two!

Weekend Crafts: Clothespins

I'm working on a summer craft story for a client this week (will let you know when it is ready)and this quick project was inspired by it.

I had a bunch of plain wooden clothespins lying around and decided to turn them into festive place card holders...

Now, this project has absolutely made it's way around the blogosphere, but I felt like sharing my version with you all!

Simply cut a piece of leftover wrapping paper or scrapbook paper to fit each side of the clothespin. You can either cover the entire side or cut the piece into two (as I did) to exactly match up where the little spring is...

Then, just glue it on! I used Mod Podge so that I can give it a protective coating however, you can use a basic glue stick as well.

THAT'S IT! How fun is that? I decided to stand my clothespin up and slip in a little place card holder (I stamped an initial and added a little coconut cocktail sticker).

It's a great project to do while watching some of your favorite shows...oh, like, maybe The Real Housewives of NYC or Glee...:)

Hello friends! I wanted to share two fantastic interviews I did for this month's LI Pulse magazine! How chic is this cover? Loving it!

The first is "Home, Around the World," an article totally devoted to design customs and superstitions from around the globe. I had such fun interviewing so many dear friends for this article, it is worth a read for sure. Aside from the always interesting principles of Feng Shui, I learned that birds and empty bird cages in the home are bad luck in so many cultures...too bad it is such a trend right now!

Then, pop over to read my interview with Mary Nolte of Kaleidoscope Color Consulting to learn the ins and outs of home staging. Have you heard about this popular trend in real estate right now? I'm kind of obsessed with the idea and would love to learn how to do it myself!

Viva Las Vegas....I'm back!

I just got back from Las Vegas this morning. Took a red-eye flight which was not so fun. However the ear plugs and eye mask Jet Blue gave us certainly helped me doze off a bit.

The trip was great with a little fun and business rolled into one. I have lots to share including photos, but for now...I'll share this gorgeous view of the Paris Hotel Eiffel Tower. I took this standing at the Bellagio across the way...I wish I were still there right now!

Easter Flowers...

Hello! I have been away too long from my lovely little blog. Between prepping for and celebrating Easter (I didn't get to make the napkins I was hoping to, sadly)...and then I dived right into my long to-do list this week and well, I have not had a chance to post...until today!

I wanted to share a photo of the gorgeous flowers from our Easter dinner table. This is a quick shot I took of my table's centerpiece...a gorgeous mixed bouquet from Trader Joe's (yes...they have flowers!)

I placed them in my beloved Kate Spade Library Stripe vase and for a fun little extra, I added in that adorable decorative moss-covered bunny pick up top, that I found at Pier 1 Imports...so sweet!

The tasty bunny down in the corner was a handmade dark-chocolate creation from a friend of my husband's...delicious!

That's it for now...just wanted to spread a little post-holiday cheer!

Project: Spring Napkins

Easter is a week away and I'll be hosting my hubby's family. I've been preparing a bit, decorating here and there but felt I was missing something. Then today I found these sweet DIY Spring Napkins over on The Purl Bee.

It seems that if you can sew, you can make these napkins. I have so many scraps of fabric and lots of ric rac ribbon...I am so tempted to give this project a try!

And if I do, you can be sure the photos will be here :)

Then, I of course went on a little hunt for napkin rings to go with them...aren't these from Crate and Barrel just a perfect match:

They remind me of a project we did at one of the magazines I worked at. My amazingly creative pal simply popped the heads off of faux flowers similar to these and glue them onto wide pieces of sturdy grosgrain ribbon. A simple project and more cost effective too...although at $2.95 each these from Crate and Barrel are a steal.

I love decorating tables, its one of my favorite things to do. How about you...how are you decorating for Easter?

Black & White Rooms

Black and white is another one of my favorite color combos so I thought I would do a little search for inspirational rooms in black and white. What did I find? A collection of rooms that are so well put together, I just had to share them...enjoy!

This bedroom is just over-the-top glamour. My dream bedroom...this one is from the Beautiful Designer Bedrooms slideshow over on House Beautiful. Swoon! How can you not LOVE that fantastic black glass chandelier?!!

The next three images I found over at Canadian House and Home's website (my new favorite place to visit!)

The rug is the real showstopper here and I love how it so smartly ties the room together. Plus, those pops of yellow work so perfectly to break up all of the black and white...I'd love to sit and have a cocktail here.

Ok, I don't usually go for such a stark room (or deer antlers) however, I think this room is so cleverly styled. Plus, that tufted ottoman with the cow hide chairs are to die for. Love.

Finally, I may be cheating with this next room because there is a lot of color going on, but it is controlled so nicely. The bursts of color are almost like little gemstones scattered about. This room is so brilliant. From the zebra rug to the interesting handwritten artwork (?!) to the gorgeous blooms on the drapery, this room just screams style!

DIFFA Dining by Design Show, NYC

The New York Times web site today has a fantastic slideshow of all the amazing designer tables at the DIFFA (Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS) Dining by Design Show in NYC that was on Monday night. All proceeds from the night go to the DIFFA foundation, a wonderful organization.

This year's tables were so creative, so amazing, I was bummed I didn't go see them myself. Here, my faves:

Designer David Rockwell and the Rockwell Group had the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's (my all-time FAVE) playing on a screen behind their gorgeous table, which was divided with a curtain of Swarovski Crystals. Can you say dream-come-true?

Another favorite, the fixture above Eric Warner's table for Aesthete seems to be dripping with gorgeous purple ribbons...how creative and colorful! I want to do this for my upcoming birthday :)

Finally, this showstopping table by the designer Arpad Baksa really caught my eye. See how the red just pops? His design was called "All the Webs We Weave." and according to the NY Times it consisted of 50 Gloriosa lilies that were all suspended with fishing wire from a bicycle wheel. GENIUS! I love the unique use of ordinary supplies to make something beautiful.

Spring is officially here! Time to spruce up our homes. In honor of the new season, I've pulled together a few of the spring things I am craving right now:

Ranunculus Flowers

With their tissue-thin petals and soft pretty colors,they are the perfect flower to welcome spring into your home. I can't help but fall in love with them. This gallery of bouquets from Martha Stewart Weddings is just breathtaking. Look for ranunculus at your local shop and bring a few stems home, you'll be glad you did!

Butterfly Vase

So delicate and pretty in white, this sweet vase from Paper-Source is a must. I love how the butterflies seem to be fluttering right off the vase. So perfect to wake up a home-office desk, or any desk for that matter!

Portico Mirror

There really isn't a better way to bounce that energetic spring sunlight around a room than with the use of mirrors. A large, oversized one like this one from Z.Gallerie, is just the way to do it stylishly in a bedroom, living room, hallway - anywhere that could use a little extra shine.

Opaque Linen Grommet Window Panels

Speaking of sunlight, it's also time to change up the window dressings. I need something a bit lighter that will let some of that sunshine in but still allows for some privacy. These panels from West Elm would be perfect in my bedroom. Time to shop!

Inspired by Williams-Sonoma

Since it was so rainy this weekend, when I did get out I decided to head to Williams-Sonoma. Easter is coming soon and since that is our big holiday to host, I decided I needed a little inspiration.

When I arrived, I was happy to see how prepared they were for Easter. Not only was the front of the store filled with Easter goodies such marshmallow ducklings, malted chocolate eggs, jelly beans and sour gummy bunnies....

...but the table in the back of the store was beautifully set for a lovely Easter holiday.

How sweet are these little bunny taper candle holders? I think they are my favorite part.

I controlled my tempation to purchase, well everything, since I know I have a lovely closet full of tabletop goodies. However, I did purchase a little jar of Herbs de Provence and picked up their recipe card for an Herbs de Provence Leg of Lamb, using said herbs. I cannot wait to test it out.

Bronze Beauties...

A few years ago, certain home accessories were all about stainless steel, nickel and brushed chrome. I know because I fell for it! My kitchen appliances, most light fixtures and the accent lamps in my living room...are all about that cool shine.

Now, it seems its time to go warm. Bronze is back...well, it has been back for awhile, actually. However, lately, I'm noticing a lot more warm, bronze accessories creeping up...and I like it.

Lighting. I was at Porto Vivo in Huntingon, NY this week for the LI Pulse party. These oversized bronze light fixtures that were in the center of the restaurant stole my heart. Amazing, right?

Window shades. My friends at Hunter Douglas recently alerted me to this trend...how fabulous do these shades look? Sheer bronze fabrics, yes, please! These are from their Alustra Duette honeycomb shades series. So elegant.

Decorative furniture. I am in love with this oil-rubbed bronze Etagere from Restoration Hardware. I love this for a bathroom or really, more for a living room or bedroom.

And these Mission-style house numbers also from Restoration Hardware are just so fun and fabulous...I had to include them!

Projects Inspired by The New York Times

I was reading the NY Times' Home & Garden section online this morning and found lots of inspiration for a few projects this weekend.

First up, this amazing inspiration board that had my heart beating a little faster.

Not only is it a beautiful photo, but such a lovely curated collage of inspiration! I love how neatly everything is displayed using a similar push pin.

Note to self: lose the mis-matched assortment of random pushpins and invest in a prettier, grown-up set like these from The Container Store:

Ok, project number 1 for this weekend is set: create a new inspiration board for my pending spring decorating projects.

Next up? Project #2....create a gallery wall of photos....similar to this one.

How fun. I've been noticing a trend in "gallery" photo displays, I even wrote about them last month and am determined to create my own. I love how this one uses primarily, what looks like vintage papers and other ephemera. Really nice. (Hm, maybe I need a trip to my local antique store this weekend?)

So who does this home belong to? Brooklyn-based architects Robert Highsmith and Stefanie Brechbuehler, who opened up their lovely one-bedroom aparment/workspace to the NY Times for this amazing slideshow. And props to Leigh Davis, who photographed their home so beautifully.

Garden Party Wool Scarf

I love wearing scarves, especially during those transitional times such as spring and fall. This one is so pretty and is rocking my favorite color combo: shades of purple and green.

My Favorite Gowns at the Oscars...

I thought this year, the gowns were just fabulous! Well, not all of them...but most of them just blew me away! The current ladies of Hollywood certainly brought glamour back this year. Here are my favorites:

Sandra Bullock : The Golden Girl (and Oscar Winner!)

Gorgeous and classy in gold! And I read that she wore Chanel Rouge in Paris, a classic red. Amazing.

Jennifer Lopez: The Diva.
I LOVED this dress. The color was perfect for her skin tone and it hugged her curves perfectly. The train was quite the debate on Twitter last night, however, this dress would not have been the same without it!

Cameron Diaz: Shimmering Princess
She looked stunning in this gold, sparkly gown and she was quite funny on stage too.

Demi Moore : The Knockout

As Rachel Zoe would say (who probably dressed her) - this dress was bananas!
She is STUNNING and her body is just crazy good for 40+.

Penelope Cruz: Spicy Fashionista.
Loved the rich color and the gatherings on the dress...that treatment reminded me so much of my wedding gown, which I loved :)

Vera Farmiga : The Newcomer (that got to kiss George Clooney!)
I am a sucker for hot pink ruffles...this was amazing. She looked so fresh and modern.

Kristen Stewart: Fun, Fearless...and Shy
Even though she was so awkward on stage, the girl captured that modern-tortured-glamorous-Twilight look perfectly in her midnight navy gown.

Oscars Party Tips - Celebrity Style

Can you believe it is nearly time for the Oscars? Yep, they're THIS Sunday! With all of its glitz and glamour, the Oscars are a great excuse to throw a party.

Just ask Sir Elton John,who is once again throwing his post-Oscars bash and HIV/AIDS fundraiser this year. His amazing parties always draw the A-list as evident by this photo below of Elton (left) with Posh Spice, Elton's partner David Furnish and Eva Longoria Parker.

This year, I did a little research on how these celebrities party post-Oscars. I gathered a ton of great tips from Elton's party and Madonna and Demi Moore's party too!

Then, for us normal folks, I put a budget-spin on them for us normal folks. You can check out my tips, including how to recreate the amazing tables at Elton John's 2009 party (below) over at Holidash.com.

Looking for recipes? Don't forget the classic Oscar party master, Wolfgang Puck. He's been catering the Governor's Ball in Hollywood for years. Last year I went crazy for his short rib recipe and included it in my 2009 Oscars Party article at Celebrations.com.

This year? I'm droooling over his announced plans to serve Prime Mini Burgers with Cheddar and Remoulade - YUM!

York Wallcoverings: Inspired by Disney

York Wallcoverings is just one of those brands that continues to inspire with every new collection and their Walt Disney Signature line is no exception. I recently received a lovely email about York's latest wallpaper designs, all inspired by Disney's iconic film, Fantasia.

The film is such a whimsical masterpiece, I was so excited to see what the designers at York came up with. Here are a few of my favorites, along with the artwork they were inspired by:

Pixie (bottom) was inspired by The Nutcracker Suite scene (directly below) as the forest is awakened by a blanket of dewdrops delivered mid-flight by the dewdrop fairies. So pretty, I see this in a nursery or even in a bathroom.

Illuminata (bottom) was also inspired by The Nutcracker Suite scene (directly below) and its whimsical dewdrop fairies illuminating the forest in the early morning. I love this design for a nursery or a child's room. I would love to paper one wall in this! So inspiring!

I also happen to love the Allegro pattern (below), another Walt Disney Signature pattern. So cool, I think it would be great for smaller projects like papering the inside of a closet or even just to frame and hang in a bedroom.

Pretty Pink Party Props

Monday was one of those days...so I decided to relax a little last night by searching for fun party goods on Etsy. Here some of my favorites, all pretty in pink!

Inspiration Icon: Marilyn Monroe

I couldn't stop thinking about this photo of Marilyn Monroe, lounging at home, from Architectural Digest. I incorporated it into my Blog it Forward post on Tuesday and it has stuck in my mind since.

I love what it represents. Marilyn was this larger-than-life glamorous, sexy icon. Yet, here she is relaxed, cozy at home surrounded by the things she loved. Of course, more likely than not this photo was posed, however, I like to believe, this was a true depiction of her life at home :)

Just like so many of us, I have always been intrigued by Marilyn Monroe. I have read countless biographies, watched nearly all of her movies (How to Marry a Millionaire, shown below, is my favorite) and movies about her (HBO's Norma Jean & Marilyn with Ashley Judd and Mira Sorvino from 1998 is my favorite).

So what was it? Why are we still inspired by her today, 40 + years after her tragic death? She was beautiful, talented, funny and smart (yes! In 1955 she started her own production company: Marilyn Monroe Productions). But for me, it was her glamour.

Perhaps deep down she also craved a simple home life, as depicted in that AD photo up top (don't we all?) but when this country needed glamour, she brought it. She was feminine and sexy and let woman know, it was ok to be that way. Gotta love that!

Moss Monogram Letters

I was spending some time over on Etsy recently, one of my favorite places, when I spotted these truly unique monogram letters from Spotted Leopard. They are covered in moss, come in various sizes and are ready for hanging with a pretty silk ribbon!

I love the idea of using them to decorate the church doors for a wedding, as they show you here in this photo. If I were getting married today...I would absolutely do this!

I also love the idea of using these to decorate for the holidays or to spruce up a spring-themed bridal or baby shower...possibilites are endless!

Have you been keeping up with the Blog it Forward mashup? I hope you have been enjoying it as much as I have! I am so happy to be participating today! Victoria over at sfgirlbybay did such a fantastic job not only organizing everyone so well but also, in choosing our post topic!

I am inspired by so many things on a daily basis, I was afraid I wouldn't know where to start. So instead, I decided to share with you a few of my passions...

Interior Design Magazines. Nothing gets my heart racing like a beautifully designed room printed on the glossy pages of a magazine.

My favorite magazines like Canadian House & Home, House Beautiful, Elle Decor and of course, Martha Stewart.

Stylists and photographers. They set the tone and mood of the pages of our favorite magazines. Selina Lake is one stylist that continually inspires. Her book Bazaar Style was my bible for about a year. I carried it everywhere, just pouring over the beautiful photos. It still has its home on my coffee table two years later.
The photography by the amazingly talented Debi Treloar perfectly expressed Selina's style. I find myself going back to Debi's site over and over again, just drawn to her beautiful images.See that moody photo at the top of the post? It is my favorite photo of hers. These below are faves too.

Fashion. Kate Spade has made fashion charming with a bit of humor and I like it. However, I could never pass up the glamour of a gorgeous gown from Michael Kors (below).

Old Hollywood. Old movies such as Breakfast at Tiffany's (below), The Philadelphia Story, How to Marry a Millionaire and Sabrina, just to name a few, were all early sources of inspiration for me.

I've watched each of them (and countless others) trying to study and capture that timeless elegance of Audrey, Marilyn (at home, below), Lauren and Katherine all captured so beautifully.

Nonpareil Magazine

Have you read Nonpareil Magazine yet? It's a brand new online mag focused on DIY projects for weddings and other special events. Created by two fellow bloggers / graphic design specialists, this magazine is visually exciting and chock full of great ideas.

I'm in love. You will be too.

My favorite was this centerpiece story, I couldnt' stop smiling while reading it. So many wonderful ideas.
I am all about centerpieces, they are one of my favorite elements to create whether for a birthday party, dinner, holiday or just for fun. I love bringing together pretty, unexpected items to create something beautiful and unique and that's just what these ladies did with their story.

Plus, I love that all of their supplies were budget-friendly. They made their ideas accessible to everyone.

Speaking of centerpieces, I thought I would share with you some of my favorite sources for finding unique, creative supplies. Maybe something will inspire you to create a pretty spring centerpiece:

Save On Crafts - Especially great for floral supplies, you'll find unique items at amazing prices.
Plum Party - My favorite party source, hands down. Great for those little, special touches.
Target - While their online selection is great, I always troll the aisles for sale and seasonal items and their dollar bins!
Tinsel Trading - When in NYC, you must go see this shop! Gorgeous ephemera, vintage ribbons, florals and lots of unique odds and ends.

Fashion Friday Babble: Hello, Ruffles!

Weekend Craft Project

I was reading through the new issue of Country Living last night and stopped in my tracks when I saw this sweet project. I love how they re-purposed mis-matched tea cups to embellish a vintage candleabra.

Unfortunately, the project isn't posted on their web site yet...so to get the how-to you'll have to pick up the March issue right now....or follow my basic summary from the how-to's in the magazine:

1. First, unscrew the candleholders from a vintage candleabra.
2. Spray it with primer and then with two coats of white spray paint.
3. After drying, use a five-minute epoxy to attach each tea cup to each candleabra arm and one at the top.

I am really inspired by this project...and plan to add it to my spring project list. I think it would make a great centerpiece for my Easter table.

I've been catching up on this week's Blog it Forward posts that began yesterday and I just finished reading Paloma's post from La Dolce Vita. She beautifully put into words and visuals what inspires her...like this gorgeous shot of model/actress Molly Sims' apartment.

I remembered the photo from a story in the October 2007 issue of InStyle Home (another magazine gone too soon) and googled this image of Molly's cozy banquet (below). I would love to curl up there today with a cup of tea and a good book.
The interior design is by Kishani Perera...I highly recommend you go and check out her web site. Be prepared to be inspired. My favorite recent project? Miracle Mile Revival.

We all deserve a little break today so go find something that inspires you and spend a little time with it!

A Happy Purchase...

I took a last-minute trip to Michaels craft store yesterday afternoon with my mom...she went for some yarn and I went for the ride. Until I spotted this super-fun white vase.

I loved the shape, the $4 price tag and loved the hexagon pattern even more! I bought one in black too...you know, thinking ahead for Halloween :)

I was so excited to get it home and plop in two of my hubby's V-day roses.

A happy purchase for sure!

Valentine's Day Dinner at Home

If you're planning a romantic Valentine's date night at home, here are my suggestions:

1. Heart-Shaped Ravioli...you can't go wrong with fresh Italian delicacies. I have a box in my freezer (thanks, mom) waiting for the big day.

2. Spanish Cava.Think of it as Champagne's romantic cousin from Spain. Crisp and delicious. Try Freixnet's Carta Nevada Brut for a good, affordable version.

3. Red Velvet Cupcakes baked in these adorable red swirl baking cups from Layer Cake Shop.

If you don't want to bake them from scratch, pick up a box of Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake Mix (which is in my cupboard right now) and their Whipped Cream Cheese frosting...top it off with shredded coconut...delish!

4. A cozy cashmere throw (on sale at WS Home!) in a spicy shade to cuddle up to with while you and your Valentine...

...play Love Letter Mad Libs :) Yes, I bought these too...I couldn't resist, they are hilarious.

Design Envy: Anna Kohler's Condo in Renovation Style

This gorgeous condo from the spring issue of Renovation Style was making it's way around the blogosphere late last week (I found it via the lovely La Dolce Vita blog) and I couldn't help but share it here too. So, I ran out and purchased the mag and made these scans for you...and for my personal inspiration archive.

I am a sucker for details, so even the opening shot of those pretty roses in one of my favorite bowls from Anthropologie inspired me! The photo on the right is of the owner, Anna Kohler seated at her workspace.

I love the artwork arrangement and the fact that her desk was from her childhood, given a fresh black-and-white update.

This bedroom makes me long for my single-girl days...she quietly embraced modern shades of pink, something I couldn't quite do with my hubby in our bedroom.

This pretty bedroom is such a great example of decorating in layers...she fearlessly and successfully mixed patterns, colors and textures here.

Finally, her dining room truly made me gasp. Her nearly all-white space is warmed up by the ebony floors (such a trend right now!) and the deep chocolate upholstery on her chairs. Loving that added bit of drama with that beautiful white chandelier. So fresh...and perfect for entertaining.

This story has inspired me to really go for what I want in my own home projects!
